International Conference: Taking Stock: Measuring Social Development, 14 and 15 December 2011

The Conference is intended to be a forum, discussion and networking place for everybody interested in measuring Social Development.

Key note speaker will be Stephan Klasen, Professor of Development Economics, University of Goettingen.

Participants can attend the conference free of charge (including lunch and coffee). 

Non-presenters: please register with us as well. Send an email to isd@iss.nl with your name and affiliation and the day(s) you would like to attend.


The conference will be held at The Institute of Social Studies in The Hague. ISS is easily accessible with public transportation.

Travel directions from Schiphol Airport

To travel by train to The Hague you can check NS Holland by Train. A one-way ticket to The Hague HS (Holland Spoor) or The Hague CS (Central Station) is around 10 Euro (2nd class). Via both stations you can reach the ISS per bus/tram.

To travel in The Hague you need a bus, tram or taxi.

To travel in The Hague you need a public transport card, called “OV-chipkaart”. You can purchase them online or via the ticket offices at the stations. Single fares can be purchased from the driver at the bus/tram (more expensive).

To get to ISS from The Hague CS you either take bus 22 (direction Scheveningen), bus 24 (direction Kijkduin) or bus 5 (direction Duinzigt). From The Hague HS you take tram 1 (direction Scheveningen).

If you prefer to take a taxi from the station to ISS it will cost you around 15-20 Euro.


The Hague has a wide selection of hotels at different price ranges. Consider Booking through www.booking.com or other sites discount sites.


Should you require a visa, ISS will write a visa support letter to the embasy. Please let us know and we will take care of that.
